transferred and reclassified throughout the system because the state
prisons are so over-crowded," said AFSCME spokesman Anders Lindall.
Thomson houses minimum-security prisoners right now. If the prison sold
Lindall says some of those inmates could be transferred to Vienna
Correctional Center in Johnson County where over-crowding is already a
safety concern.

Illinois Republican has introduced legislation to block federal funds
from transporting Guantanamo detainees to the Thomson Correction Center
in northwestern Illinois.
Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) is seeking an across-the-board ban on all
federal funds from being used for the facility to house detainees.
Other Illinois Republicans, including John Shimkus, Judy Biggert, Peter
Roskam and Tim Johnson joined Schock as co-sponsors.
